Claustrophobia! Available June 1st!
Claustrophobia!, the game of gnomish insanity, is done, and on June 1st it will go live on Drive Thru RPG.
I couldn’t be more excited (or nervous). Donovan did some amazing work on the layout, art and design, and you’ll finally get to see that, along with added content about the world of garden gnomes and more. We’ve worked hard to polish the game and I’m sure fans old and new will be really pleased with what they see.
You can keep up to date with all things gnome on our Facebook page. We would certainly appreciate a like if we can get it too.
Delectable literature
My husband looked at me for a while and then proclaimed, “You’d be perfect in a land of chocolate books”. Hmmm, read a page, eat a page. The more I thought of it the more I realized, yes. Definitely. However, it would probably be prudent to have really small text.

Snow Survival Secrets
It starts snowing and my brain goes into survival mode. My t-shirt reads “I survived Snowmageddon”, but snow is as alien to me as a South African in an izakaya*.
We don’t get snow in South Africa—at least that’s what I tell people—but speaking for myself, it’s more that we don’t “get” snow.
Snow is the white stuff we spray on shop windows at Christmas time, when we’re heading to the beach to surf and escape the heat. So, if you’re as new to the falling white stuff as I once was, here are some of the things I’ve learned during my five years in Japan.

Blind Rage
by Rodney Sloan
She laughed.
“Do you think I spared your brothers? When have the legends ever told of Belladonna the Merciful?” She pressed her blade to his throat, the steel as cold as her eyes. “You men are weak.”
“Remember me! Look past the dragon-blood scar, Bella.”
“What sort of fool do you think me?” her voice held no pity.
Yet she paused.
He could feel her eyes trying to unmask him, but the acidic blood of the Fell Wurm had burned fiercely.
“It is me, Darrik. If you ever loved me…”
“I have forgotten that name. All are dead to me. You are dead to me.”
She lifted her blade high.
Easy Japanese recipe: ???
This hearty, chicken rice porridge is really easy to make. The ingredients for tori zosui are readily available too so I thought I’d share it and you can have a taste of Japan wherever you are.
For 2 portions, you’ll need 1.5 cups cooked rice (Japanese type would be best because of it’s gumminess), chicken stock, pepper, shallots (I used 1/3 ??), and fresh ginger. The last item may be tricky: ?? (konbu). This kelp is often used in Japanese cuisine to infuse cooking liquid. As a cheat, you could try it with ?? (dry sea weed used in sushi rolls) – an accomplished cook may freak out at this suggestion, but as we say in South Africa, “‘n boer maak ‘n plan.”
Check out the recipe (and a few others I’m keen to try) at https://japanesense.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/the-favourite-japanese-winter-dishes-that-are-going-to-make-your-mouth-water/
Happy cooking!
Bundle Up this Christmas!
I don’t know what the future will bring. That’s part of the fun of life, part of the adventure. Without the sense of the unknown, we’d never have thrilling tales to tell. But, I do have plans.
In 2016 I’ll put down the chalk, file away the flash cards and say goodbye to English teaching. What’s next? Well, I’ve been flexing my writing muscle, polishing my programming and dusting off the CV. If you already follow me on From the Rice Bowl, then you’ve seen some of the work I’ve been doing. In 2016 I’m going all-out for games. Not only does it mean I get to put my degree to good use, but it also means I’ll be publishing all the work I’ve held back under my current contract.
I’m gunning for a big year in 2016. So, I’m offering you all the products I’ve done up till now at over 40% off. This PDF and print bundle deal will hook you up with my popular solo adventure, Lunatic Labyrinth, as well as print copies of map tiles and more.
If you like what I do, please consider becoming a fan on RPG Geek. If you’re not signed up, but are registered on Boardgame Geek, then you don’t even need to register.
That’s all from me for 2015. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Till we meet again, tell thrilling tales!
