You know, you have to celebrate the small victories. Things we’d take for granted back home, like a person asking you for information, or you answering the phone for your Japanese colleagues, or you taking care of that thing, because you are there.
Hands up if you enjoy answering the phone. I sure don’t, especially when I don’t expect to understand the person on the other side of the line. But I’ve learnt that answering the phone is something I can do and something that helps others; answering the phone makes me a team player. There are loads of small things, like this, that have become important to me, as I’ve gotten used to living in Japan.
I hope you can find those small things too, those micro actions that become victories in your life.
