Also known as the Sea of Scales, The Scale Coast and by various other names, this desert is a harsh land plagued by serpent folk. Lying just north of Cowards Cove, the southern border of the Desert of Scales marks the northern extent of the Pirate States.

The Desert of Scales is unique because of its white sand which consists almost entirely of the bleached and crumbled scales of long dead dragons and the serpent folk who worship them. According to legend when the Jaws opened to reveal the Abyss the first creatures to come forth from the dark were the dragons and their serpent followers. They crossed Avernos to settle here and preform their ancient and evil rituals, turning this once lush jungle into a barren desert waste.

Governance

The Sea of Scales is hardly inhabited by man save for small tribal groups of hunter-gatherers known as the Sun People, who tend to be dark skinned and small in stature. They are skilled bowmen and trappers who have managed to eke out an existence in this harsh land while avoiding the snake peoples.

The snake peoples are the true lords of this land, and there are several fortified temple cities wherein their folk dwell. The largest of these is Tsss, which lies on the coast where the waves of the Churning Sea lap at it’s stone peers.  It is said that no man has ever walked into any of these cities and lived, but it is known that the land is ruled by a line of Pharaohs who are said to wield great power over the afterlife.
